(Philodendron Lemon Lime)
The Philodendron ‘Lemon Lime’ originates from America, where it was discovered during a captain's journey and subsequently brought to England. This plant was then continuously cultivated and shipped to Florida, after which this ornamental plant became very popular and spread to various countries, including Indonesia
This plant has leaves that measure 17 cm to 25 cm in length and 2 to 3 cm in width, but they can grow larger if the plant is placed in an open, unrestricted space. It has a trailing stem and the stem exhibits very rapid growth.
Root (Akar) Taproot.
Stem (Batang) Has long but sparse thorns, erect, round, sympodial branching, the twigs are green.
Leaves (Daun) Young leaves are initially purple, gradually turning green, shaped ovate to lanceolate with a serrated leaf margin. The leaf wing is narrow or marginal. The venation is pinnate, and the leaf surface is smooth.
Flower (Bunga) Bisexual, corolla has five petals (lobes), star-shaped, white with a purple tinge on the petal edges. The calyx (sepals) is star-shaped. Numerous stamens, kidney-shaped anther head, yellow color. The pistil stalk is cylindrical, the stigma head is round, yellow color. The flowers appear in clusters or solitary, are slightly fragrant, and emerge in the leaf axils.
Fruit (Buah) Round to oval-round shape with an apical mammilla (a nipple-shaped structure at the apex where it attaches to the branch). The skin color of the ripe fruit is bright yellow, and the taste is sour, astringent, slightly sweet. The skin surface is shiny.
Seed (Biji) Few in number, ovoid shape, smooth surface.
Propagation is done generatively (seeds) and vegetatively (budding/okulasi, air layering/cangkok)
Seed Propagation: Seeds are obtained from physiologically ripe fruit. The seeds are washed clean and air-dried for 2–3 days until the slime is gone. The seeds are then sown and placed in a shaded spot with watering once every two days to maintain moisture. Sprouts emerge after one week. Once the seedlings reach a height of 15 cm, they can be transplanted into polybags.
Vegetative Propagation: Plants selected for seedlings must have strong, sturdy root systems, high environmental adaptability, resistance to drought, pests, and diseases, a straight stem with a diameter of 15 cm, and high yield.
Harvest is done when the fruit reaches optimal ripeness, about 8 months from the start of flowering.
Helps the body fight infection and also prevents or treats scurvy, used as a mouthwash for sore throat, cough medicine, maintains body immunity, substitute for quinine in treating malaria and fever, treats rheumatism, high blood pressure (hypertension), cold, irregular menstruation or induces menstruation, chest pain, uterine infection, and kidney stones, helps fight varicose veins and bruises, eliminates excess water from the body (diuretic-like), is carminative (to relieve wind colic in the stomach by expelling gas from the digestive tract). It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anticancer, and antiparasitic activities.
Essential oils (D-limonene, β-pinene, γ-terpinene), coumarins, phenolic compounds, carboxylic acids, amino acids, flavonoids (diosmin, hesperidin, limocitrin), phenolic acids (ferulic, synapic, p-hydroxybenzoic acids).
