Syngonium is a genus in the Arum family (Araceae), native to Central and South America. This plant grows primarily in tropical and subtropical forests. Syngonium is an evergreen that can grow up to 20 meters and forms long shoots that creep along the ground or climb trees.

Syngonium prefers a bright location, but not direct sunlight. It's also important to select a location based on the leaf color variety and its light requirements. Syngonium varieties with lighter-colored leaves or a high proportion of white require more light to photosynthesize and generate energy. Fully green varieties have more chlorophyll and can thrive in less bright areas.

• Habit Herbaceous, with fibrous roots. It grows by clinging to a host, with a climbing growth habit modified with climbing roots.

• Stem (Batang) The stem is round, branched, has a smooth surface, and is green in color.

• Leaves (Daun) The phyllotaxis (leaf arrangement) of Syngonium podophyllum is whorled. The leaf blade shape is arrowhead-shaped (sagittate). The leaf margin is entire (rata), palmate venation (menjari), the base is lobed (berlekuk), the tip is pointed (runcing). The leaf surface is rough (kasap), and the leaf texture is thin.

• Flower (Bunga) The Syngonium plant has a compound inflorescence and is located in a whorled arrangement. The flowers are located in the leaf axils, possess a bract (protective leaf), are incomplete flowers, unisexual (single sex), and are spadix (tongkol) shaped. The calyx shape is a cup (cawan) and is yellowish-white in color.

• Fruit & Seed The fruit is ovoid shaped (bulat telur) and brownish. The seeds are oval and blackish-brown. (Note: In the identification phase conducted by the researcher, flowers, fruits, and seeds were not found because this plant rarely, if ever, flowers.)

• Propagation is done vegetatively (cuttings).

• Seedlings can also be grown using seeds.

• In Belize, the root and bark are used for traditional medicine to treat external and internal wounds.

• In Central America, the plant is used as a remedy for various skin disorders.

• Air Purification: It is effective in removing indoor and outdoor pollutants like benzene, formaldehyde, toluene, and xylene.

• Air Quality: It has the ability to reduce airborne microbes and increase humidity.

Toxins: The plant's sap contains oxalic acid and raphides (calcium oxalate crystals), which can cause a severe burning sensation on the skin and potential eye damage upon contact.

Medicinal Compounds: The root and bark possess antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties (suggesting the presence of active compounds, though not specifically named beyond the general properties).
