Jombang originates from Europe and West Asia, then spread to many regions, sometimes dominating open areas. This plant has medicinal uses. The leaves can be used as a vegetable, either cooked or as a side dish. The flowers are used as a yellow dye in drinks and fabrics.
This plant grows rapidly and wildly in wet highlands, mountain slopes, fields and on the side of roads where the air is cool. Likes humus-rich, well-drained soil with neutral to alkaline soil pH and full sun or shade
Taproot, yellow-brown.
The leaves are single, pointed at the tip, oval, pinnate, serrated, and green, covered with fine white hairs. The base narrows to resemble a leaf stalk.
The flowers are compound, on long stalks covered with fine hairs, grooved, and have a disc-shaped corolla, yellow in color.
The fruit is a white tube.
The seeds are rice-like, flat and elongated, with fine, velvety yellow hairs.
Propagation is by seed, which can be sown first or planted directly in the field. Naturally, propagation is aided by the wind, which carries the jombang seeds.
