According to LIPI (Indonesian Institute of Sciences), this plant is native to Indonesia, originating from Java Island. It is also widely found in Malaysia and the Philippines. It grows wildly or is planted in yards and gardens as an ornamental plant.
It generally grows well in the lowlands, mountainous areas, and open places that receive plenty of sunlight. This plant can be found up to an altitude of 400 m above sea level (m.a.s.l.) in secondary forests. The optimal temperature for this plant is 15–17.5 ºC at night and 20–22.5 ºC during the day.
Root Taproot, yellowish-white color.
Stem Round, prostrate and creeping, branched, noded (segmented), and purple in color.
Leaves Simple (single), stalked (petiolate), opposite arrangement, ovate shape, pointed tip (acute), serrated margin, pinnate venation. The upper surface is red-purple, glossy-grayish, the underside is wine red, and hairy.
Flower Compound inflorescence, clustered in a spike arrangement, emerging from the tip of the stem. The corolla is funnel-shaped, white color.
Fruit Small, oblong shape, light green color.
Seed Small, flat, and white color.
Propagation is done vegetatively (stem cuttings).
Soil media preparation: The composition consists of 1/3 part ordinary soil, 1/3 part sand, and 1/3 part manure. Red brick (1/3 part) is added to the bottom of the pot.
Diuretic (promotes urination), treats open wounds and sprains, diarrhea, dysentery, hemorrhoids, relieves excessive menstruation, and has anti-inflammatory activity.
Saponin, tanin, flavonoid, triterpenoid, alkaloid, polifenol, kalium yang kadarnya tinggi dan rendah natrium, asam silikat dan glikosida.
