This is one of Indonesia's native medicinal plants, distributed across China, Southeast Asia, and Australia. This plant has been utilized as a traditional medicine, especially in Southeast Asia, the Netherlands, Australia, and France. Additionally, Cat's Whiskers is often grown as an ornamental plant
It grows well in regions up to an altitude of 1,200 m a.s.l., with an annual rainfall up to 3,000 mm/year. It prefers Andosol and Latosol soil types with an organic matter content up to 5%, and no shade.
The stem is quadrangular (four-sided) and slightly grooved.
The leaves are oblong-ovate (oval), lanceolate with serrated margins, and the leaf veins along the edges are sparsely hairy or glabrous (smooth).
The flowers are blunt, round, the corolla (petals) is pale purple or white, the upper part is covered with short purple hairs, and the stamens are longer than the flower tube and exceed the upper lip of the flower.
The fruit is a nutlet, dark brown, and 1.75–2 mm long
Propagation is done vegetatively (by stem/branch cuttings).
Cuttings can be planted directly in the production garden or planted first in the nursery.
The planting distance is 10 cm×10 cm in the nursery and 40 cm×40 cm in the production area.
It is antihypertensive, anti-hyperglycemic, antioxidant and hepatoprotective (liver protecting), anti-obesity, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic (inhibits cell growth), a diuretic (peluruh urin), a nerve cell protector, and treats rheumatism.
