Day 1 of the 2010 Tornado chase!!! Woohoooo!!! Unfortunately, we probably won't see much for the next few days. The last wave of activity has passed and moved far to the east. Instead, we're heading towards Salina, KS today, in the hopes that we will get some thunderstorms, perhaps some small hail, and --- hopefully --- a nice lightning show tonight. Yes, you read that time correctly. It's just past midnight here in Kansas City, MO. The day was uneventful, with no significant cells worth mentioning. Then, after we had dinner at the Olive Garden (to Mark and Mike's delight, of course), we checked into the local Motel 6 to relax. Well, at some point after 11 pm I started to hear some thunder, so after heading out with my camera, I checked my GRLevel3 radar. Here's what I saw:
A nice thunderstorm with some excellent lightning and some pea-size hail. (There was larger stuff to our south, though... supposedly as large as 1.75".)
Now it's time for some shuteye. Oh, and here's the link for some "fun shots" from earlier: http://kingkey.smugmug.com/Weather/Sunday-2010-May-02
