Wednesday, May 21, 2014 @ 0930 MDT: Hey, bear with me, guys... It's gonna take me a little while to catch up on everything today. We had a long -- but excellent! -- chase day yesterday. While we didn't see any tornadoes, we DID see some beautiful country, nice storm structure and some nice hail. I will try to process and post pictures later.
We also had an opportunity, after the chase was over, to toast our fallen comrade, Chris Curtis, on the anniversary of his death... and here is one photo offering along those lines. (Click on the image to enlarge it.)
Salut, Chris!!! We miss you, man!!!
Wednesday, May 21, 2014 @ 1130 MDT: Hey, here are yesterday's pictures and the day's travel map:
As for today, things are still looking good for Colorado, as the SPC's forecast shows:
TODAY WILL SEE ANOTHER ROUND OF ISOLATED SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS OVER NORTHEAST CO AND SOUTHEAST WY. SOUTHEASTERLY LOW LEVEL WIND FIELDS APPEAR MORE FAVORABLE THAN YESTERDAY FOR MORE SUSTAINED ROTATING UPDRAFTS. ALSO... EASTERLY/SOUTHEASTERLY LOW LEVEL WINDS OVER EASTERN CO WILL HELP TO STRENGTHEN THE DCVZ WHERE A LOCALLY ENHANCED RISK OF TORNADOES IS EXPECTED TODAY. VERY LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE. STORMS MAY PERSIST INTO THE EVENING AND SPREAD INTO WESTERN NEB AND FAR WESTERN KS BEFORE WEAKENING.
Wednesday, May 21, 2014 @ 1330 MDT: The SPC had predicted early initiation today, and it looks like they were correct. Storms are firing up on the far side of Denver, so we'll let it get to our side of the metro area before we try to chase it (learning all too well from last year's experience in El Reno). Keep your fingers crossed that (a) we get to see some nice photogenic tornadoes today, and (b) that they happen out in the middle of nowhere... with no damage to man or property.
