Robotic

Mars has seen the most missions to attempt to land robotic landers and rovers, Unfortunatly many missions have failed as this is no easy achivement, on the 19 Oct 2016 the ESA "Schiaparelli" lander was the latest casualty after failing to start its descent thrusters when attemting to land on the surface of Mars. That said there have been some very succesfull missions to land robotic landers and rovers on Mars, the most famous being the Historic First two Viking Landers.

The Viking 1 lander touched down on the surface of Mars on July 20, 1976, and was joined by the Viking 2 lander on September 3.
