Ariane 6

European Space Agency (ESA) - Ariane 6 Rocket

European attempt to compete against SpaceX

Old A6 design with many solid-fuel motors

A6.1 Heavy for large telecoms satellites; A6.2 Medium for low-orbiting and Earth-observation spacecraft

A6.1 Heavy upper-stage to use a new Vinci engine

ESA new Ariane 6 rocket is being developed as an interim response to SpaceX's semi reusable Falcon 9 and its associated low costs that is already flying, but the Ariane 6 is not due to be tested until after 2020 and SpaceX plan to have a fully reusable rocket using its new Raptor engines.

It will be interesting to see how the European Space Agency (ESA) responds to the current fast pace of change.
