Antares

Antares 200 rocket

The Antares is a three stage rocket designed to launch Orbital STK's Cygnus spacecraft to the ISS, as well as ULA Atlas 5 rocket.

The original Antares 100 was capable of lifting just over 5,000 kg (11,000 lb) into low-Earth orbit(LEO) with a 3.9 m payload fairing, Having its inaugural flight on the 21st of April 2013.

Antares is now Orbital STK's main rocket for flying Cygnus.

The first version was the Antares 100 with its first stage was powered by two Aerojet AJ26 engines (old Russian production from the 1960/70s)

Replaced by the Antares 200 that was pushed into early service on 17th October 2016 following a spectacular launch failure of an Antares 100 on the 28th of October 2014, now using two more modern and very reliable Russian RD-181 rocket main engines, boosting the Antares rocket to deliver up to 7,000 kg (15,000 lb) to low Earth orbit(LEO).

Antares 300

Work is progressing on the Antares 300 to maximise the rocket for the full thrust performance of its Russian RD-181 main engines.
