SpaceX to break ground on Texas rocket launch site on Monday 22 Sept 2014

The Monday ceremony will mark the start of construction of the $85 million site at Boca Chica Beach, east of Brownsville. The site will be used to launch commercial satellites.

Also a Celebrating the future SpaceX commercial rocket site, the Brownsville Economic Development Council will launch a community celebration Monday.

“This is a way to say, ‘Brownsville, thank you,’” said Gilbert Salinas, the executive vice president of BEDC.

The free, public celebration will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Brownsville Sports Park on Merryman Road. Representatives from many local entities will be in attendance. Mayor Tony Martinez is expected to speak at the celebration.
