The Duat

The realm of passage. This is probably the largest non-infinite part of the Nether Realm, since it has definite start and end points, but contains a truly gigantic maze. It starts out at the Nether World Checkpoint and immediately splits into three paths: one eventually goes to Hell, one to Heaven, and the last to Limbo. The Nether World Checkpoint connects to Olympus. In each of the three paths, the dead (who had just been judged in the Nether World Checkpoint and assigned a path), are presented with a series of deadly challenges including rivers of acid, blood, and pus; harsh deserts; frigid mountains; angry spirits; and monsters. The Limbo and Heaven paths both end with portals to their respective regions. The Hell path ends with a monster called Ammit the Devourer who rips out and eats the heart of anyone who comes near him, sending them straight to Hell. The only person known to have ever traveled through the entire Duat was Weasel, who was tasked with passing every challenge on all three paths to prove himself worthy of the Eye of Horus. There is no way into The Duat without being dead, as Weasel was only able to enter after a goddess took his breath of life away (she later gave it back and restored Weasel to life when his time in the Nether Realm was done).
