Khufu

Khufu was born on Eaglypt 11,998 years before Book 1, immediately after the death of Kaleialoha, the previous Man of Light And Shadow. Since his birth was directly after the death of the previous Man of Light and Shadow, he was taken to a temple by Anubian Priests, along with all babies born that day. There, the priests gave toys to all the babies. The toys were all everyday useless trinkets, except one, which was a ukelele that belonged to Kaleialoha. The other babies chose the useless trinkets while Khufu chose the ukelele, indicating that he was indeed the next Man of Light and Shadow. He was born into a rich, slaveholding Krok family. When he was a small child, although his parents were avidly pro-slavery, they still allowed him to play with the slave children when they were not busy painstakingly constructing Eaglypt's monuments. As a result, Khufu was much more sympathetic towards the cause of the slaves (most of the Eaglyptian population at this point) than almost any of the other Kroks. When he was 16, he was approached by Anubian priests and informed that he was the next Man of Light and Shadow. He was then sent off to travel the galaxy and master Astral and Shadow magic. During his travels, Khufu encountered slavery-free societies on planets like Arturia, Ryu 108, Aztlan, and Vigam. When he returned to Eaglypt, he became an avid abolitionist, advocating an overthrow of the Krok elite class, writing in abolitionist newletters, etc. This made Snefru, the current Pharaoh (who was a pro-slavery Krok) very nervous. In secret, Snefru had been abusing the Eye of Horus to teach himself Shadow Magic without completely giving his soul over to it, allowing him to perform a Shadow Death ritual that reawakened all of Eaglypt's mummies from the dead. However, Snefru was not experienced enough in Shadow Magic to control this mummy army, causing it to run amok all over the planet and eventually kill him, along with thousands of other Eaglyptians. When the mummies started attacking, Khufu tried to enter Shadow Mode and use Shadow Death to lull the mummies back into the afterlife, but even a fully realized Man of Light and Shadow in Shadow Mode was not enough to undo this ritual. Khufu asked his past lives for advice, and he was told by Kaleialoha that the only possible solution was to create an Astral artifact strong enough to undo the ritual. Khufu managed to do this by slaying a Basilisk on Arturia, collecting one of its fangs, and bringing it to forest clearing where Cydbwysedd dueled Jormungandr millennia earlier. At this sacred site, Khufu performed a ritual that transformed the Basilisk fang into the Golden Fang, a new Astral Artifact. Khufu brought this fang back to Eaglypt, where he performed a Shadow Death ritual with it. This ritual opened a portal to The Duat, which sucked all the mummies in, even the ones on the other side of the planet, and closed immediately afterwards. Since the Eaglyptians were extremely happy about being saved from the mummies, Khufu was made the new Pharaoh. Khufu promptly abolished slavery and passed laws granting protections to native Eaglyptians. To ensure that nobody could go around using the Golden Fang to open Duat portals whenever they wanted, Khufu hid the Golden Fang in a secure vault in the Sphinx, protected by shabtis. The altar on which the ritual was performed was hidden deep in the desert, where a tomb would eventually be built on top of it. The key to the vault in which the Golden Fang was hidden was in the posession of the Order of the Fang, a secret society Khufu set up for the purpose. Soon after this, Khufu suffered a severe stroke, died, and was reincarnated into Pacal on Aztlan. Thousands of years later, Weasel was on Eaglypt, searching for a way into The Duat. After performing various tasks to prove his worth, the ghosts of the Order of the Fang admitted Weasel to the organization and provided him with the key to the vault containing the Golden Fang. Inside the vault, after Weasel defeated the shabtis guarding the Golden Fang, Khufu appeared to him and told him the story of how the Golden Fang came to be. He also explained that he was a Man of Light and Shadow, making him one of Weasel's past lives.
