Logan

Logan was born near Draugarth Fort on Ryu 108 17 years before Book 1. He had a wild and independent streak from the time he was a small child, chasing an alphyn into the forest after it stole livestock from his parents' farm. His mother was killed by the last traces of the Blood Bleaching less than a year after Logan was born, meaning Logan only had a father figure for most of his early childhood. When Logan was 12 years old, his father went on a hunting trip, but he had a heart attack while trying to swim across a stream and drowned. Logan survived on his own for a couple of weeks by hunting and fishing, hoping desperately that his father would return soon. However, this hope was crushed when he found his father's corpse washed up on the banks of the stream. Logan returned to his house in the woods, where he mourned for a while before going back to hunting and fishing for food. Eventually, he got bored with this and decided to seek adventure. He built a longship out of local wood and started a business ferrying people across the Great Sea from the Ulvskog to Hrafnfjell. Here, he used the adventurous and independent streak he had since childhood to his advantage. For example, one time when he ran aground on an island and needed materials to repair his ship, he single-handedly fought and defeated the troll that lived there. However, he was almost killed when a kraken severely damaged his ship and he could do nothing against the monster. Miraculously, Logan managed to escape with his ship. After making repairs, he travelled to the ancestral Grendel home city of Nidavellir, where he learned Astral Magic to help defend himself against the dangers of the high seas. Over the next 3 years, Logan mastered Astral Magic, becoming a Grendel Mage. After learning how to defend himself on the high seas, Logan embarked on his most daring adventure yet: stealing a wyvern egg from a nest on an uninhabited rocky island in the middle of the Great Sea. All he had with him was his boat, some food, climbing picks, and his Grendel wand. Using his climbing picks to scale the steep cliffs of the island, he crawled into the cave system where the wyverns built their nests. Inside, he found colossal nests built from the fur and bones of animals such as mammoths that the wyverns had eaten. Under the cover of darkness, Logan used Astral Rock to collapse a small portion of a cave, creating enough noise to draw the wyverns away from their nests. Since lightning wyvern eggs glowed in the dark and those were the only ones he could see, Logan quickly stole one, hurried back down the sides of the cliffs, and sped away in his boat as fast as it would go. When the wyverns noticed their egg missing and smelled Logan's lingering scent in the cave, around 5 of them flew out of the cave and followed Logan's boat as it crossed the ocean. While most of them gave up chase after 20 miles or so, the egg's mother relentlessly pursued Logan's scent for over 100 miles until it finally caught up with Logan's boat. The wyvern let out a breath of lightning, which Logan raised his arm to block using Astral Magic. However, the wyvern's lightning breath proved too strong for Logan to handle, and his right arm was broken and seriously burned. Logan eventually managed to kill the beast with a ballista he had on his boat. When Logan returned to the mainland, he sold the wyvern's head to a market at Hrafnfjell for a huge amount of money. Little did Logan know that he was selling the wyvern's head to UniSyn, and the head would eventually end up as one of Sir Will of Cole's home decorations. When Logan returned home, he waited a month or so and the egg hatched. The lightning wyvern was tiny at first, and Logan decided to name it Thrumuveggur. Thrumuveggur imprinted on Logan immediately after hatching, but would refuse to eat any of the meat scraps Logan tried to give to it, so Logan had to travel to Nordrilund to seek out a crazy old Raven who knew a little bit about wyverns. The Raven told him that for the first year or so of its life, a wyvern would refuse to eat anything besides the milk of a female wyvern. Since Logan did not exactly have a full-grown female wyvern to milk on a daily basis, the Raven told him that a substitute could be made from boiling charcoal, saltpeter, flint, and mammoth blood for three hours. Using the money he got from selling the wyvern head, Logan purchased a huge stockpile of all of these materials (except the mammoth blood, which was unavailable at all the markets he tried). Logan then decided to simply use the blood of any wild mammoths he killed for food to make the milk substitute. Thrumuveggur happily drank the milk substitute early every morning. However, the wyvern was growing fast. Within a month, it was too big for the room in Logan's house it was kept in, so Logan had to find a large outdoor stable to keep it in. He found a vacant farmhouse in Vestrilund with a large enough stable to keep Thrumuveggur in, so he sold his hut, packed his things into his boat, and set sail for Hrafnfjell. Logan decided to keep Thrumuveggur a secret, since owning a wyvern without a license was very illegal on Ryu 108. After another few months, Thrumuveggur finally stopped taking Logan's milk substitute. That night, Logan found Thrumuveggur devouring the corpse of a cow it stole from a farm. To prevent local farmers from questioning the disappearance of their livestock, Logan from then on ensured that Thrumuveggur was well-fed by bringing home several hundred pounds of various meats from the market every night. Eventually, Logan began to run out of money, so he had to find a real job. However, he was too lazy for most of the professions available to him. Around this time, Tate invaded Ryu 108. He easily conquered the entire southern continent, setting up a base of power there while he learned the Song of Shadow in Nastrond. Since Logan now lived on the northern continent, this did not affect him much until Weasel and his friends arrived in Vestrilund, aiming to acquire the Crown of the Damned from the primordial titan Vestri. By this time, Thrumuveggur was large enough to ride, and he gave Weasel and his friends a ride on Thrumuveggur in exchange for some money. However, when they returned to Logan's house, they discovered that both the house and stable had been completely burned to the ground by a group of Boarbarians who had signed an alliance with Tate: in exchange for raiding farms and providing Tate and his army with food, the Boarbarians were paid a large sum of money. Since Logan's fortune was lost in the fire, he now had literally nowhere to go. He joined Weasel and his friends, who offered him a place to live on Aurea if he helped them in their quest to stop Tate. After finally getting the alliances of Vestri and all the other 3 primordial titans (though this was later revealed to be a ruse), Weasel and his friends flew back to Bjørnholm on Thrumuveggur, getting there in half the time it would have taken by boat. When Weasel and his friends went into Nastrond to confront Tate, Thrumuveggur was forced to wait outside since he was too big for the narrow, winding caves. During the battle against Tate and Jörmungandr, Logan used his Astral Magic talents to pitch in, but was also knocked out like Weasel and all of his friends except for Nate, who ended up winning the battle. Since Tate's plan was thwarted when Nate defeated Jörmungandr, Tate simply left the planet and began planning his next mission. After this, Logan came with Weasel and his friends to Aurea, where he was given a farmhouse in the countryside with a large barn to keep Thrumuveggur in. Now that he had a place to live, he chose to simply assimilate into the Aurean citizenry instead of continuing to join Weasel and his friends on their missions. Specifically, Logan chose not to accompany Weasel and his friends to Awal Kabab, and did not get involved when Tate conquered Aurea and drove Weasel and his friends into hiding. He wanted to leave the planet and join them, but could not because he had no money to buy somewhere else to live and was essentially living on government property. Since Logan did not accompany Weasel and his friends on their mission to Awal Kabab, the Tatian administration did not view him as a threat and allowed him to continue living on his property in peace for some time. However, trouble came when the Tatian military saw the farmhouse and wanted to make it into a supply depot. They sought permission from the Tatian Government to acquire the land, and since the Tatian Government had no reason to continue allowing Logan to live on their land, Logan was evicted and, most devastating to Logan, Thrumuveggur was sentenced to euthanasia as a "dangerous pet". Instead of voluntarily surrendering Thrumuveggur to the Tatian Government, Logan simply climbed onto its back and flew away. Logan landed in the city of Wantioch, where he met with several others who were angry with the Tatian Government. Together, they founded the Aurean Resistance Movement, which resisted the Tatians on Aurea by harassing their supply shipments and liberating their prison camps. Eventually, Logan managed to contact Michael, who had founded the Aurean Alliance, a group of planets in the northeastern corner of the galaxy who had declared independence from Tatian rule and were fighting a losing battle with the Tatians. The Aurean Resistance Movement joined the Aurean Alliance, but this was mostly a symbolic gesture, since the Aurean Alliance was nowhere near Aurea...yet. 19 years after Tate took over Aurea, Weasel has returned from hiding and is now the leader of the Aurean Alliance. The Aurean Alliance has finally reconquered enough planets to be within striking distance of Aurea, and the Aurean Alliance now relies on information from the Aurean Resistance Movement to plan its invasion of Aurea. During the invasion, Logan would travel around Aurea, raising revolts against the Tatians and assisting the invasion force wherever he could. However, Logan and Thrumuveggur were killed when they were shot down after raiding a Tatian-held farm and stealing its food.
