God of Hope
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” Romans 15:13
God is the source of hope. He is the author of hope in Christ. Christ was foretold all through the Old Testament. God formed a plan long ago to save us from sin. It is because of His actions to save us that hope was born: God refused to leave us in our sinful state. He chose rather to send His Son to die and take our place, and then went on to adopt us as His very own children. Knowing all this, is there any reason for us not to trust God? He is the Source of hope and when we trust in Him we will be filled, that is, our thoughts and our entire beings will be permeated with joy and peace. Paul is not talking about earthly happiness and peace, but true spiritual joy; peace in ones heart that transcends all human understanding. This can only happen when we place our trust in the God of hope. It is through believing in God that joy and peace are produced. They are the fruit of trust. We see here how necessary faith is to feelings. This is not faith built upon feelings, but feelings that are the result of faith. Habitual trust in God for all that we need is the only means of increasing joy and peace in the hearts of all believers. Joy comes with faith; where there is one there is the other also, and as the one increases so does the other. Putting our faith in God and trusting Him with all aspects of our lives removes all the stress and anxiety of needing to work things out ourselves. So, peace comes in at the door of faith and unspeakable joy fills the innermost chambers of our hearts. True heavenly joy and peace fill the soul; they satisfy it in a way that nothing else can! Thus it is that God satiates and replenishes the weary soul when we trust in Him.
Father, we are so grateful to know you as the God of hope! You have given us hope for the future. There is nothing in this life that need worry us, for all is in your loving hands. We trust you, Father; please increase this trust in you daily that our joy and peace would increase and permeate our souls. Amen
