A New Person
"But you were taught to be made new in your hearts, to become a new person. That new person is made to be like God, made to be truly good and holy" Ephesians 4:23-24
What a thought! We are being "made to be like God, truly good and holy". It is interesting that the scripture states that we were taught "to be made new", not "we were to taught to make ourselves new". We are not the ones doing the making, God is. God is at work in us and this is the work He is accomplishing; that is, if we are allowing Him to do so. Are we attempting to take God's job away from Him, by attempting to make ourselves holy and good? Do you really think we could do the job anyway? I know I would be a complete failure at it. Our part in all this is to allow God to do the job he has begun, to submit ourselves to Him in all of life's experiences and to let Him make us into that new person. Don't think that our part is an easy part: that all we do is sit back and do nothing. There is nothing farther from the truth! There is nothing more difficult for human beings than to let go of control over their own lives. Every human being that has ever lived has struggled to keep control over his life; even the tiniest baby does that. Letting go of that control is not an easy thing to do, but it is the only way that we can ever hope to become good and holy. We've all heard the expression, "Let go and let God," well that's what it is all about. Allow God to have the ultimate control over your life, to trust Him to make you into that new person He has promised. Give control of your life to God and watch the transformation that will take place in your life
Father, I thank You for the work that You are doing in my life. I do want to be made new, to be made like Christ, to be made like You. Help me to submit myself to the process. Help me to let go of my desire to control my destiny. Give me a humble and contrite heart, one You can work with and make me in new in You. Amen
