The Lord is my helper
"The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" Hebrews 13:6
Fear is a powerful emotion, one that can literally immobilize us. Uncertainty about the future brings with it timidity and it undermines our confidence in God. Knowing that our Father has all things in His control will alleviate our apprehensions about the future. Knowing that He is with us and will help us dissolves our fears. The more we understand God’s love for us and the abundance of grace that we have received, the less we fear the uncertainties of the future or what man might do to us. 1 John 4:18 tells us that "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear." Realizing that God cares for us with perfect love drives out the fear that immobilizes us. So, instead of worrying about how to remove the fear in our lives, let us bask in the love that He so freely bestows upon us. Let us remember the times that He has been our helper, the times He has shown His great love to us by bringing us through the fire unharmed. Let us remember that He loved us so much that He gave up His Son that we might have salvation. When the God of the Universe loves us that intensely, there is nothing that man can do to us that makes a real difference. We are loved with an everlasting love and we need not be afraid!
Give us confidence in You, Father; a confidence that will dispel all fear. Reassure me that You are more powerful than all my enemies combined and that nothing can touch me when I am in Your arms. Help me through the struggles of life, O Lord. Fill me with Your love and assurance and I will sing of Your goodness all the days of my life. Amen
