Worship the Creator
"They exchanged the glory of the immortal God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” Romans 1:25
Paul was weary with watching the heathen worship idols when God was present. What a folly to worship the created when the Creator was there! He knows that there are heavenly hosts that surround the throne of God and bless Him continually. This glorious vision revealed to him the madness of those around him, and thus he joins the chorus of the angels in blessing the Creator. While idolatry is not so commonplace in this day and age, the world is full of people who do not serve God and thus become slaves to all that is below. Even Christians can fall into this trap of worshiping the created rather than the Creator; it is subtle and yet it happens. When we worship the Creator, our focus is on Him. We see Him for what He is; truly amazing, wonderful beyond our comprehension, awesome and glorious, and so we worship Him. When we take our focus off of God and place it on our work, our family, our homes, etc., these things can become idols in our lives. We can find ourselves worshiping the created and not the Creator. What are we devoted to and what do we adore above all else? What do we put our main focus on? What consumes our thoughts and our desires? If it is not God, we need to stop and realize that we are just as mad as the heathen of Paul’s day. We need to stop, ask forgiveness, and refocus our attention on Him. It is only God, the Creator of the Universe that is worthy of our worship. Let us join the heavenly hosts and bless Him forever!
Father, forgive us when we make our jobs, our families, things of this earth, more important than you. We are weak and we need your help to keep our focus where it should be. We do not wish to worship the created, we wish to worship only you. You alone are deserving of our attention. You alone are worthy of our praise. Let us focus on you and all that you are. Let us bless your Holy Name for all eternity! Amen
