Greater Love
“Greater love hath no man than this, that he would lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
Today is a day where love is celebrated by the world. But in this world where love is so often adulterated, what better source for rare and pure love can there be than through the amazing love of the Savior who died for each of us? He came to earth; perfect, unblemished, with pure motives. He lived a life that would bring glory to his Father in heaven, but would cause him much pain and suffering. He died the death
of a common criminal, though he had never committed any crime, unless, of course, laying down your life for others was a crime in his day. Perhaps to the scribes and Pharisees it was! His goodness and light made their sins stand out. But, instead of addressing those sins, they sought to snuff out the light that shown on them, and so they did. Jesus died for even those that crucified him: that is love beyond compare. Today, as the world celebrates love, they do not even realize that the greatest example of love walked this earth so long ago. Yet, he still walks this earth and the light of his love still shines on men, through each of us. Let us be faithful to the Lover of all men. Display the love of Christ, shining forth through our lives each day, and in so doing, show him our love in return. He is worthy of our undying love and devotion. He is worthy of more than we can ever give to him, our Savior, whose amazing love can never be fully fathomed.
Lord Jesus, thank you for your great love! There is no way we can thank you enough for all you have sacrificed for us. We can only imagine what it cost you and yet, you freely gave yourself so that we might taste life. We can only pray that we might become more like you in all we do and say, that we might allow your love to flow through us to others. Help us to be the conduit of that love. We love you, Lord, because you first loved us. Thank you for your undying love! Amen
