Shelter of the Most High
"He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." Psalms 91:1
If we truly belong to God Almighty, then we have the privilege of dwelling where He dwells. We find ourselves at home with God and it is to Him that we return for rest whenever we are in need. All Christians may look to the Most High for help in time of need, but not all Christians dwell there. We can dwell with the Most High while still on earth, but only those who live in Christ can do so. When we learn the blessings of dwelling in His presence we will find rest though all around us are in turmoil. For "to them the veil is rent, the mercy seat is revealed, the covering cherubs are manifest, and the awful glory of the Most High is apparent. " [C. H. Spurgeon] With such a vision before us, why would we wish to dwell elsewhere? Dwelling in the presence of our Father, the Shekinah light casts such an enormous shadow of the Almighty that we will be covered by his protection no matter where we find ourselves. It is under his outstretched wings of power and love that we are covered from all harm. It is under the shadow of His wings that we find rest in the shade from the heat of the day. It is here that we take refuge from the tumultuous storms of life. Continual communion with the Almighty brings such reward, for only in His dwelling place are we safe from all that would injure us and it is there that we can rest secure in His love.
Almighty God, help us to dwell in your presence throughout the day. There is so much in life to distract us and pull us away from you, but it is in your presence that we wish to dwell. Sweet communion with you is what we long for. Cover us with the shadow of your wings, that we would be safe from all evil and let us rest in you, assured of your love and watchcare over us. Amen
