Keeping His Promise
"The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. 2 Peter 3:9
Those who do not know the Lord, do not understand His plan and why we Christians can wait years, decades, or even centuries for God to keep His promise to us. We have learned that God's Word is good and that He keeps ALL His promises, though it may take what seems like a very long time. In the verse prior to our text, Peter tells us that "with the Lord a day is like a thousand years." Taking that into perspective, the Lord moves quite quickly. Look at what he has accomplished in the short time since the fall of man. Within a few of "God’s days", he sent a redeemer who purchased back mankind with his blood and saved the human race from annihilation. Since Jesus’ death and resurrection he has been forming the church, Christ’s bride. Soon his Bride will be completed and Christ will take her home with him to the place He has prepared for her. All this will be accomplished within a few "days" of Jesus’ death. Surely the Lord is not slow in keeping his promises. The whole human experience has taken place in a relatively short time using God’s time clock. We need only understand God’s time clock and thankfully Peter gave us that key in verse 8. We need only be patient and wait to see the fulfillment of God’s promise.
Thank you, Lord God, for showing us that you keep your promises. Thank you for the swiftness with which you carry them out. Help us to understand your time frames and be patiently waiting, as you have been so patient with us. Give us the mind of Christ that we might understand your ways and bring glory to your name. Amen.
