Committed Unto Him
"For the which cause I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." 2 Tim. 1:12 KJV
Paul had committed his life to Christ. Webster’s defines commitment as the state of being bound emotionally or intellectually to a course of action or to another person or persons There is no doubt that the Apostle Paul was committed to Christ. Paul was bound to Jesus Christ and to His cause, he was bound in such a way that no one or nothing could deter him from this commitment. It mattered not what he suffered at the hands of man, for his commitment to Christ was far stronger than any pain that he might be called upon to suffer. It was not Paul’s determination that kept him committed to Christ, but it was Christ’s faithfulness to him that kept him committed. He knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus Christ would keep his life totally committed. It was not through his own power that his commitment stayed strong, but through Jesus Christ who gave him the power to endure and continue on. Our commitment can remain strong and true to the end only when we, like Paul, put our trust and reliance on Jesus Christ and allow him to do the work in us that needs to be done.
Father, I am committed to Christ. Help me to maintain that commitment in this world of distractions. Thank You for the promise that You will keep me committed until the day You take me home. I know that can only be done if I will continually submit myself to You. My flesh is weak; keep me dependent on You, that I might fulfill my commitment to You. Amen
