That They May Serve Me
"And Jehovah spake unto Moses, ‘Go in unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, "Thus saith Jehovah, ‘Let my people go, that they may serve me.’" Exodus 8:1
God sent Moses to seek the Israelites' freedom from bondage. The purpose of gaining their freedom was so that they might worship and serve Jehovah without the hindrances and distractions of Egypt. The people could not gain their freedom by themselves; they needed a savior. God sent Moses to do the job. Years later, Jehovah likewise sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to free His people. When Jesus Christ died for our sins upon the cross, he freed us from the bondage of sin. We were released from the death sentence that hung over us. Chains no longer bind us, making us slaves to sin; instead we find ourselves free. In Exodus 8:1, Jehovah tells us what our mission must be, "that they may serve me." Every waking moment, from the day of our salvation on, should be consumed in serving God. Our purpose is that we might worship Him in spirit and in truth for all eternity. The chains that once weighed us down no longer have any power over us. We are free! Free to worship Him! Free to serve Him! Free to Praise Him all of our days!
Father, how we thank you for deliverance! You have set us free from the bondage of sin and death through the sacrifice of your dear Son. We praise you for your goodness, your faithfulness, and your grace. We pray that we might be faithful to you in return and that all our days will be filled with worshiping and serving you. Amen.
