Good Deeds
"Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits you." 1 Peter 2:12
There is nothing in this world that speaks louder than our good deeds. My parents often quoted to me the proverb that goes, "Actions speak louder than words." This is the very essence of what Peter is trying to say to the early church and to us. We can preach Christ all we want, but unless we live Christ it will be meaningless to the world around us. They cannot hear us. The clamor of the world is so loud, that our words are inaudible. We can get their attention by our actions, by reaching out to those in need as Jesus did. Jesus lived what he preached. He reached out to the poor, the hungry, the lonely. He touched every soul that came to him with an open heart. We need to emulate this same Jesus to all those around us. We need to make ourselves vulnerable like Jesus Christ did. The world will still find fault with you. You may never fit in, but they will see your good deeds and it will make an impact. Let us make it our goal in life to do good to all men, reaching out to this hurting world; that glory might rise up to our Father in heaven.
Father, help us to live Christ in this sin-filled world. The world longs to see Him in us. They need to feel His touch. Help us to always live our lives so the world might take note that we walk with Him. May every deed glorify you, Lord. This hurting world needs you more than it realizes. Use us to draw men to you; that in the end, all might know you and love you as we do. Amen
