Hold to the Traditions
"So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us." 2 Thessalonians 2:15 (NAS)
Traditions are the passing on of something of importance from one generation to the next. So, the question is, what are the traditions that Christians have passed on from one generation to the next? Here are a few for you to think about.
"Give thanks in all circumstances and pray continually." 1 Thes. 5:17
"Confess your sins one to another." James 5:16
"Be kind and compassionate to another, forgiving each other." Eph. 4:32
"Now the Bereans were more noble... because they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily." Acts 17:11
"Wives, submit to your husbands." Col. 3:18
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ loves the church." Col. 3:19
"Children, obey your parents in everything for this is pleasing to the Lord." Col. 3:20
"Study to show yourselves approved before God... rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim. 2:15
"Let us not give up meeting together." Heb. 10:25
"Worship the Lord God and serve Him only." Matt. 4:10
"Let us do good unto to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." Gal. 6:10
"Let your light shine before men that they might see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matt. 5:16
The list could go on and on; we need only delve into the Word to find more. Are we holding fast to these traditions that have been preserved for us from Jesus’ day? Are we passing them on to the next generation? We need to be acting upon these things as well as passing them on to our children and grandchildren. Only when we hold these traditions tightly can we bring Him glory with our lives.
Father, help me to pass on the traditions of Christianity to the next generation. Help me to be so filled with Your Word that it becomes part of me. Let me bring glory and honor to You as I live out Your words to me. Amen
