A Strong Tower
"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and they are safe." Proverbs 18:10
Last week the American people experienced a tragedy that they have never before known: a brutal terrorist attack on the World Trade Towers in New York. Thousands of innocent people lost their lives in the attack. People had put their trust in those towers; they were strong and stood proudly against the New York City skyline for so long. But how quickly they crumbled once struck by those two jetliners! It was a matter of minutes and they were a pile of rubble. This tragedy has touched so many lives and it has brought a nation to its knees. Proverbs tells us that the name of the Lord is a strong tower, but this tower will not crumble, it is invincible. Only in Him are we safe. Satan can distort the thinking of men; he did so in the minds of these terrorists, they gave their lives thinking they would have a special place in heaven. It is hard to imagine how warped one's thinking can be, but Satan can do that. Satan was the mastermind in Tuesday's attacks. Yet in the end, Satan has so little power when compared with God. He will not prevail. The Lord is a strong tower, and no matter how the enemy attacks, that tower will remain standing and strong and if we are in it, we will be safe from eternal harm. I am sure there were Christians who died in the attacks this week, but they are in the arms of their loving Father. They were not destroyed. Satan did not win the battle. Little did Satan know that this attack would result in a nation turning to God. He once again has failed and failed miserably. Oh, that all men might run to that strong tower and be safe!
Thank you, Father, for being that strong tower in our lives. We are so glad that we can run to you and in you we are safe from the enemy and his attacks. We pray for this nation, Lord. We pray for all the hurting families who have lost their loved ones. Draw them to yourself, Lord, and give them the peace and comfort that only you can give. Be with the rescuers, Lord. Keep them safe and give them the strength and the fortitude to continue in their efforts. We pray for your Kingdom to come quickly, Lord! We pray for the day when there will be no more death and heartache, the day when ALL men will know you and love you. We pray for the day when Satan and all his hosts will be thrown into the bottomless pit and destroyed. Keep us safe in you until that day arrives. Amen.Â
