The Good Part
"Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; but only a few things are necessary, really only one, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Luke 10:41,42
We live in a very hectic world; a world of constant distraction. I can really relate to Martha. She was working hard, like I work hard. She was busy serving others, like I serve others. She fretted and worried because she wanted everything to be perfect, just like I do. But in all that busyness, she was missing out on the most important part: fellowship with Jesus. I do that, too. I am a Martha, but I long to be a Mary. It is a daily struggle to turn a Martha into a Mary, but it is something I need to do. I need to set aside the hectic pace. I need to make a concerted effort to set my priorities and seek first the kingdom of heaven. I need to sit at Jesus' feet. It is a choice we all must make if we wish to please Jesus. Jesus didn't want all the fuss and the to do, he wanted the relationship with the individual. He wanted Martha, not the fancy meal she was making him. So with us. Jesus desires us. He longs for our fellowship. When we choose to sit at Jesus' feet, there is a big payback. It is called freedom; freedom from worry, freedom from stress, freedom from the cares of this life. Choose Jesus and, in return, he will give you peace, rest and joy. The choice is yours.
Father in heaven, how easily we are distracted by the cares of this earth! We are so busy serving, we forget to sit and listen. Help us to sit at your son's feet. Help us to set our priorities so that you always come first in our lives. Impress upon our hearts how important it is that we fellowship with you on a daily, even hourly, basis. How thankful we are, dear Lord, that you choose to love us; that you long for our fellowship! May we never disappoint you. Amen
