The Light of the World
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
When Jesus walked upon this earth, surely he was a light in a dark place. Some recognized that light. He shone forth brightly and they followed him. They, too, became lights in a dark world, because Jesus had passed on to them the light of life. There were also those who saw Jesus and did not recognize the light. They never saw him for who he was, because they were blind. The blind cannot see the light and so they remain in darkness. How blessed we are to have seen the light of Jesus! We have lived in darkness, and it is a frightening place to be. We have tasted what it is like to live in the light; to live in the presence of the Savior; and we never want to walk in darkness again. He has given us the light of life: our lives are aglow with Jesus, for it is he who lives within each one of us. Let us go forth and let the light of Jesus shine from our lives that darkness may be dispelled in the lives of others! Let us continue until the day comes when the light of the world will shine forth in every heart and darkness will be no more. What a glorious day that will be when His blaze of glory will light the entire earth!
Thank you, Jesus, for being my light! I have lived in darkness and I much prefer your light. Fill me with Your Spirit, Father, that I might let the light of Christ shine through my life to all around me. Amen
