The Lines of Purpose
"The lines of purpose in your lives never grow slack, tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope." Col. 1:5 (The Message)
I've never thought of the "lines of purpose" in my life as a life line before, a life line that ties us to Christ and to heaven. But it is this faith in Christ that indeed ties us tightly to heaven. For without faith in Christ, we would be blown about with no real purpose in our lives. And it is hope that keeps that line tight and us secure in Him. For where there is no hope there is no future. Hopelessness fills this world and we see people wander aimlessly through it filled with despair, with no hope for their future. How different it is for the Christian! Not only is he tied to Christ by faith, but hope keeps that tie secure and taut. We have not only hope for the future and a heavenly home, but hope for each hour of each day. We have a hope that is based on knowing that Christ will be there for us each step of the way. Our future is shining bright because Christ is our future and while we are tied securely to Him, nothing can dim that hope.
Father, keep my lifeline to You tight. Strengthen my faith each day that it might never grow slack. Thank you, Jesus, for being there for us at every turn, always ready to pull us from destruction. May my faith in you grow, the tie that binds us be strong and unmoving, so that I will ever be securely bound to you. Amen
