I Will Walk Among You
"I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people." Lev. 26:12. "I will live with them, and walk among them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." 2 Corinthians 6:16
This is the covenant that God made with the Israelites of old and later with the Christian church. It is the covenant that He has made with each of us. He is walking with us and we are His. What a precious promise that is to us to know that no matter our circumstances that God is there walking with us! He knows everything that is taking place in our lives and he is allowing it for a purpose. There is nothing that can befall us that has not passed through Him first and, no matter what happens, we are His children. He is among us. God is very emphatic here, and the text can be literally translated, "I will inhabit in them." He is not just spending the night, but He is living with us. He is not here for a short visit, but has taken up permanent residence with us. He goes on to say that He is our God and we are His people. When we take Him as our God, He becomes our all in all. There is nothing we need outside of Him. He is all sufficient, all supportive, all sustaining. Because of this very special relationship that we have with Him, because we are His and He is ours, He will instruct us, enlighten us, defend us, provide for us, support us and bless us, as if He had nothing else in all creation to do. We are so blest to have been given this covenant by God. Let us be faithful to Him, as He has been to us. Let us never forget our part in this covenant. He is our God, let us put Him first in all things, that He might bless us beyond measure!
Father, thank You for walking with me. Thank You for the communion I have with You. Thank You for being a tangible God, one who is always there for me and willing to patiently show me the way home. Help me to put our relationship first in my life. My heart desires intimacy with You. Keep me focused on the importance of staying close to You, and may I bring You joy. Amen
