Our Home
"Lord, you have been our home since the beginning." Psalm 90:1
Home. Home is where your heart is. Home is where you find rest at the end of a long hard day. Home is where a nice hot meal awaits you, nourishing you when you are hungry and weak. Home is where you long to be: it is a place of refuge. It is a place of peace and tranquility. Your home is familiar to you because you spend so much time there. No one has to tell you where the kitchen or bedrooms are, you just know. Moses tells us in this psalm that God can be your dwelling place, just like He was with the Israelites of old. When we spend as much time as possible with Him, when we take refuge in Him after a weary day, when we seek Him out to nourish us spiritually and leave our heart with Him, then God will be our dwelling place, our home. Our Father has offered us His home to be our home, yet many of us choose to live in spiritual shacks and shanties where we find no peace or rest, while this grand home sits waiting for us. We think that we can only go into the house of the Lord on Sundays or maybe Wednesdays, but this is a deadly error. God longs for us to be in His home always. God can speak to us as clearly in the workplace as in the sanctuary. Whether we are driving our cars, playing ball with our kids, or eating our dinner, we can have Him on our minds and we can be at home. It is a matter of attitude, a matter of where our hearts are. If we long for every aspect of our lives to be an act of worship then we will know we are home with Him. No matter how we act with Him, there is never a moment when He does not think about us. He is our home. He has been from the very beginning, from the moment of our adoption. Let us move into the mansion now that we might find true peace, comfort and nourishment for our souls with the Father who loves us so.
Father, I long for home. I long for the comfort of Your embrace and the peace and solitude that I find in Your presence. How grateful I am that You will not rest until all Your children are home. Your love will reach them as it has me. Thank You for that unconditional love that has moved me. Free me from the distractions of life that beckons me to leave Your home, even for a moment. Thank You for always being there with open arms. Amen
