Be Holy
“I am the LORD your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, even as I am holy.” Lev. 11:44
God is morally and spiritually perfect; a divine being; and thus He is holy. How is it even remotely possible for us to be holy? The grand scope and design of all the restrictions that God gave to the Israelites in the Old Testament was to set them apart that they might be his holy people. This is also God’s call for the Church today. His desire is that we would be holy, as He is holy. He wants us to resemble Him. For this reason, we must consecrate ourselves to following Jesus daily. No faith in a creed, no amount of religious devotion, no acts of charity or service, nothing can be a substitute for living a consecrated life. In order to be partakers of the Divine Nature, we must be saved from sin through Jesus Christ, and then be made holy within, resulting in righteousness without; or we will never see God. This is the very reason that Jesus Christ came to this earth; so that he might purify us through himself. It is through Jesus' blood that our sins have been blotted out, and it is through Him that we can be restored to the image of God. It is not a one-time deal but it is a continual process. Yes, we have been saved, but then we must go on to dedicate ourselves wholly to God. We must separate ourselves from the desires and goals of this world, for our home is in the heavenlies and we this world must not have any hold on us. Only by living this earthly life in such a way as we are continually seeking to bring God glory and honor can we be holy as He is holy. Let us resolve today to make that our goal. Let us live holy lives and, in doing so, reflect our heavenly Father.
Father, you are an awesome God and you are Holy. We can only dream of being holy like you are holy, but that is our desire, dear LORD. We long to be like you. Help us to set aside the cares of this world and place our hearts in yours. Help us to live each day so that we might be transformed into the image of your dear Son. Make us holy, as you are holy. We cannot do it by ourselves. We need your help. Help us to live in the heavenlies, even though our physical bodies are here on earth, and may we bring you glory and honor today and always! Amen
