The Altar of God
“I will go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.” Psalm 43:4
When we go to the altar of God, what is it we see? It is the Sacrificial Lamb of God, the one who takes away the sins of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ. The sacrifice of Jesus is indeed our joy and delight! Where would we be without him? We would be most miserable, and there is no question we would still be wallowing in sin and darkness. Jesus lifted us up out of the pit and set us beside him. He has taken paupers and made them sons and daughters of the King. We have much cause for rejoicing! Now that we have been saved, we have been given a precious relationship with a Father who loves us. Just as Jesus found his joy and delight in his Father, so may we. He has blessed us with so much. Let our hearts sing with the joy that is within us. Let our lives show how we rejoice for the salvation bestowed upon us and the hope that lives before us. Let us bring glory and honor to the Father who saved us, and the elder brother who laid down his life for us. Let not a day go by that we don’t fall on our knees and thank the God of the Universe for giving us salvation and life in Jesus Christ. Let us follow in the footsteps of our Savior and delight in our Father and in doing so, we will delight in all that He sets before us. If we can live in the hope of this calling, our journey will be one of joy, for we are going home to live with our Father the King!
Father, You have blessed us so. We praise Your name for You have showered us with Your love and grace. Help us to never lose sight of the sacrifice of Jesus and what it cost You both and let our joy and delight grow with each passing day. We long for the day when we will be able to sing with all our hearts in Your presence, Father. Amen
