A statistical study
This is a statistical study about people like you, students of 1ESO.
Work in pairs. Exceptionally, the work can be individual.
Prepare a survey with two questions and their possible answers. Prepare also a data collection sheet like the one below.
One of the questions should start with: How much …?; How many …? or How long …? (Quantitative Variable). The other must be about a qualitative variable, but both should be connected in some way.
As a help for that, think about your preferences, habits, costumes, likes, beliefs... Think about what your friends eat, wear, do in their free time... It's up to you. Ask your teachers if you need some vocabulary. Look at the following example:Where did you go last summer holidays?
How many days were you sleeping out of home last summer holidays?
Remember you need two tables like that one.
4. As soon as you have your survey prepared, ask your mates to answer the questions. It's forbidden to speak in Spanish. We are going to use a sample of, at least, twenty people, ten for each member of the group. You have approximately 15 minutes to complete the survey.
5. Once you have collected all the answers, put all the data together and sort them in a table. Use a column for absolute frequencies and another for percentages. Perhaps you will need to group the answers as we did with weights. Example:
6. Draw different charts for each question.
7. Find out some appropiate parameters: mode, median, mean...
8. Present your study to your mates:
Draw different charts (bar, line, pie) for each question and their answers.
Extract a conclusion and write a sentence that resumes it.
Show your conclussions to the class.
