Zentangle Design Value Strips

1. The subject of my creation is that I made a value strip that goes from black to white. The setting is a bunch of different designs. The work was made by first drawing ten 1 inch by 1 inch boxes then a drew different designs in each box going from dark to light using a fine tip sharpie. I chose to create this artwork so I could see the different shades from black to white. In my art I used contrast to show the light from the dark I also used line to show the different values, because when I added more lines it was darker and when I added less lines it was lighter.

2. I used formal balance to balance out all of the designs and shades showcased in my art. From my darkest box to my lightest box you can tell that they are different shades and they are balanced out. My project evolved because I drew my dark drawings first, but when I started to draw my lighter designs they started to look the same so I had to make the ones in the middle darker by adding more lines.

3. The meaning is that I tried to create the different designs into a value so I could reference back to it to see what black compared to white looks like. My artwork relates to my life because I created different designs that could be used for tattoos, henna, zentangle and a bunch of other cool things that you can put on your body. In the future I think I could make my artwork stronger because a few of the boxes in the middle look a lot alike so I would make them look different from each other.
