"Sad"
5"x7"
The subject of my creation is Charms, my old dog who was suffering from cancer. I chose to create this because the goal with this project was to create 2 different subjects and adding a material that connects with my piece. To build off of my concentration of how animals portray emotion, I decided to add me, to show my audience how humans may perceive pets. I want to continue to show a variety of emotions throughout my concentrations, so in this piece, I showed a sad emotion. He was laying down, unable to move and in pain.
I made this piece by first drawing everything with a 6H pencil, then going back in with a charcoal pencil, giving it values. I tried to push some of the values deeper, showing more contrast in my piece. I added a collar by using red string (Charms collar was red) and a charm, for the charms on his collar.
Throughout this project, I used to value and contrast by experimenting with black and white tones. There is a clear contrast between the lighter gray shades and the darker gray areas. I wanted to experiment with objects in my art and connect it within my piece so I made a collar with charms name on it. i used a photograph as my inspiration, and at first I was going to grid it, but I didnt have much time so I instead just free handed it. My next step in this project would be to make the Charms look like he is laying down more, because he looks a little awkward right now.
