Color design

1. The subject of my creation is a fish with 84 different colors, tints and shades. The work was made by first drawing the fish and background with pencil on canvas paper. Then I painted each color until I had all 84. In my artwork I used color to show the 12 colors of the color wheel with 3 tints and 3 shades for each one. Another element I used was value to show the different value scales of the colors by adding black, darkness and white, lightness. I also used pattern in the background by repeating the waves over and over.

2. In my artwork I used grouping with the colors to show the different arrangement of the colors. My project evolved because I had to keep layering paint so you couldn't see my brush strokes. I changed when I originally put some of my colors because they looked better with certain color.

3. The meaning behind my artwork is I wanted to create something that is colorful, because that was basically the project. So the first thing that came to mind was fish. My project relates to my life because my mom has many colorful fish paintings and objects around my house. So I thought I could make her something that she could hang up and enjoy. In the future I would add more layers of paint because some colors you can see the brush strokes through.
