Bird Collage

Clay

7" x 10"

The subject of my creation is a scraffito clay collage from my previous projects. I choose to create this because I wanted to express some of my projects that were not shown in my concentration. the setting is just a black and white clay slab. I think the placement of the birds shows a more appealing composition and makes you look more closely at my work.

To make this piece, I first printed out my other projects and traced the birds onto the clay. I then used black underglaze to then scratch off the white space using scraffito tools. I then fired it in the kiln, then added a clear topcoat glaze to make it shinny and look clean.

The meaning behind my artwork is focussing on birds to continue with my concentration. I used my previous donate life project and duck stamp, which both show strong lines and patterns. This relates to my life because I was able to experiment with clay and collage. The collage shows the beauty of the bald eagle and ducks. Both of these species really stand out to me.
