2 Faced

2 Faced

7'x10'

The subject of my creation is two faces put together into one, with blue and red for each side. My piece shows different values with the blues and reds. I got feedback some of my pieces to add color, so I decided to add color to the face to make it stand out more, and show emphasis on the face and eyes and mouth. This relates to my life because this is a painting of myself and sydney.

I used acrylic paint, on canvas paper. I took an image of myself and sydney in the light room to use a a reference for my piece. I used larger paint brushes on the larger areas and smaller paint brushes on the eyes and mouth. I challenged myself to use larger paintbrushes and less paint strokes. I decided to create the background the original color of the red and blue, then use whites and blacks to highlight certain areas.

I used value in my artwork to show the areas where there are darker and lighter tones. I also showed contrast by making the facial expressions the focal point. At first I thought the I would do the whole face, and do yellow and green in the last two squares, although I decided to just do half the face instead. My next steps in this project would be to push some of my lighter values more, especially on the face, I also want to evolve this project into something else, like adding more to the other side of the face.
