"Early year drawings"

Graphite and charcoal

3"x3"

The subject of my creation is three very different things, that relate to each other through each being a drawing that was drawn from life. I drew a zoomed in feature on my face, a vase of sunflowers and my right hand. I drew a zoomed in drawing of my eye because I had to work around wearing a mask, and this was the only visible part of my face. I drew a vase of sunflowers as an object the represents my future because there were sunflowers blooming outside, and also because I really like the sunflowers. Lastly, I drew my hand because we had to draw an object that relates to my past and the ring I'm demonstrating in the drawing I bought in the past. I chose to create these projects because I want to see how I can progress as an artist throughout the year.

I first drew my eye, I made this by looking in a mirror, and drawing it from observation. I used a 4H pencil by first outlining my face and hair, using a 6B pencil later on to darken my hair and darker areas of my eyes. Next, a vase of flowers, I made this only out of graphite and drew many lines from observation, I darkened some areas where the flowers seemed to darker. Finally, I drew my hand, I mainly drew this because I like drawing hands, I figured I could use my ring as an object in the past because I had just purchased my ring. I drew this by focusing on the important lines on my hands and darkening them where there was more of a shadow.

I used value to show different shades, from the lighter graphite areas to the darker ones. This is shown specifically in my eye and on my hand. I also showed selective color on the hand by making my ring blue to show that is what I'm focusing on in the piece, and also giving the audience a more visually appealing piece to look at. For all three of my drawings, you could argue I showed contrast to show how they differentiate from each other, from light to dark. Throughout these projects, I had to keep moving from drawing to drawing quickly, to eliminate how much time I spend on each drawing. My next steps in my time capsules is to add color and to add more values and contrast in my pieces to make them more realistic.
