"Ninja fighting an angry banana"
Charcoal and water color
7"X10"
The subject of my creation is a is a ninja fighting an angry Banana. I made the background plan and light, so the focal point would be on the banana and ninja. Usually we would get the satisfaction and fun of picking a card, but this year we were assigned one, luckily I haven't had this card in years past. I used my imagination to determine the placement of each object in my drawing. There were many ways I could have drawn this, but I decided to have the banana pealed and the ninja kicking the banana. This relates to my life because this is something you would never see, so by imagining it I can think about what this might actually look like. I chose to create this because this was an intriguing card and hadn't done it before. I used value to show the darker and lighter tones. I also showed contrast by making the ninja dark and background light, so it would stand out more.
For this project, I used pencil, charcoal and water color. I first drew the outline with a 2H pencil, I then used charcoal on the ninja to show different values. After I water color in the on the banana to give it more colors of orange and yellow. I also used a lighter watercolor color in the background to make my objects stand out more.
I used value to show the darker and lighter tones. I also showed contrast from making my objects stand out more from the lighter background. Your eyes are more drawn into the darker areas in my piece, which is where I wanted people to focus on. My project evolved throughout this project because I had to keep layering watercolor, which got annoying because you can tell where the paper is fading from the water. Next time I want to add more charcoal to the ninja, so he isn't fading into the background, and also do the back ground first, so there aren't weird water strokes.
