Mid-term Project

The subject of my creation are many circles organized to create endangered species heads, then writing “protect our animals” underneath. I first drew the animal heads with colored pencils and pen inside the circles, then cut them out and arranged them onto a blue watercolor background. I chose to create this because I think people should be aware of our animals and how important they are. Throughout my piece, I used color by coloring different sections each different colors to make each one stand out. I also used this to blend the animal head with the bottom circles.

I tried to show sharp focus by having the heads more detailed than the bodies, so your eyes would focus more on what animals are truly endangered and most valuable. All animals and important, but I just want to show specifically highly endangered species. Over the course of this project, I had many different ideas of approaching this, I thought of doing flowers or even doing different zentange ideas. Then I thought of animals and writing a slogan as I did on my donate life. I didn't know what I wanted to do in the background so I painted another piece of paper thinking it would look good, but I didn't love it in the end. I also added a tree because I had to tie the background in with the circles, the tree is supposed to symbolize like protection of these animals and like their growth like maybe these animals will soon become unendangered.

The meaning behind my artwork is to show how these species are important and we need to protect them instead of killing them. Like elephants are being killed for their tusks which is causing them to become endangered, this is not ok and we need to protect them. This relates to my life because I feel like these animals should not be getting killed by humans especially if it's just for fur or ivory. We need to protect them, which was the message I was trying to convey. I think my artwork could be stronger by maybe pulling the background into the foreground more because right now they don't really come together well. Also, I would try to add more circles next time to add more composition.
