Duck Stamp

Cinnamon Teal

Colored pencil, acylic, watercolor

9"x11"

The subject of my creation is two mallard ducks, one female, and one male. The setting in my artwork is moving water and the ducks are swimming. I chose to create this and draw cinnamon teal ducks because I wanted to draw a different bird than what I've drawn in previous years. I used color on the ducks to show their wing patterns, while also showing their beauty. I also used movement in the background to show the moving water and waves.

I created this by printing images of cinnamon teal ducks then I used these images as references. I grid the paper to make more accurate drawings and observations. Then I used watercolor and colored pencils for the rest of the painting. Throughout my artwork, I used selective focus with colors to make the ducks stand out more. For example, on the male cinnamon teal, I show a deep burnt orange/brown color, which makes the duck stand out more. I left the background simple, to make the ducks stand out the most. I drew two ducks to make the composition more appealing.

The meaning behind my artwork is to show the importance of birds and how beautiful they are. I chose cinnamon teal ducks because they’re beautiful birds and I was drawn to the males unique colors, especially the red eyes. Next time I want to utilize the composition more by placing my ducks more centered in the middle and towards the top of the paper.
