Scholastics #1

Burning Earth

11"x9"

The subject of my creation is an earth on fire due to global warming with someone looking up, watching it burn. I chose to create this because the I wanted to submit to the climate change category fo the scholastics competition. I have always been passionate on this subject of climate change. I wanted to show how the earth will look someday if it continues to rise temperature the rate it is going at.

I made this piece by first drawing the face with a 6H pencil, then going back in with a charcoal pencil, giving it values. I then painted the background and the earth. I mixed paints to give my painting more values, like in the fire, with the yellows, blue, oranges and reds.

Throughout this project, I used to value and contrast by experimenting with black and white tones as well as experimenting with values in the colors I chose. There is a clear contrast between the lighter gray shades and the darker gray areas. Before I started I was thinking about doing a burning earth, but I chose to add eyes, showing how it is effecting people. I chose to give the earth and fire color because that is the main focus of my piece. My next step in this project would be to continue to work on blending the earth with the fire.
