Loving

Loving

12"x7"

The subject of my creation is Chloe who is loving and looking up at me. I chose to create this because I wanted to play will perspective and this image shows a different perspective then I’m used to. To build off of my concentration of how animals portray emotion, I decided to add human eyes, to give my piece depth and also have people think deeper about my piece. I want to continue to show a variety of emotions throughout my concentrations, so in this piece, I showed loving. She was looking up at me, with her loving eyes, showing a peak of a smile.

I made this piece by first drawing the face with a 6H pencil, then going back in with a charcoal pencil, giving it values. I then drew the eyes with watercolor in the middle and black pen as the eyelashes. I then cut out the dog and placed glued it on the watercolor background that I painted.

Throughout this project, I used to value and contrast by experimenting with black and white tones. There is a clear contrast between the lighter gray shades and the darker gray areas. I had a vision before I started, to create half a dog’s face and the other half a human face. I wanted to experiment with the style of my work and make it more visually appealing for my audience. Although this plan changed and I instead created human eyes, with the green selective color to make them stand out. I also made a background that I didn’t like, so I had to cut out Chloe and place her on another background. My next step in this project would be to connect the background with Chloe, maybe adding an item a dog would have to show love.
