Give a bird their Wings

Pen, watercolor, colored pencil

8 1/2"x 11"

The subject of my creation is two bald eagles who are flying across the paper. I choose to create bald eagles because I really wanted to emphasize my meaning of bird wings. The setting is the sky with blue in the background. I think the placement of the birds shows a more appealing composition. I wanted to make the birds as realistic as possible to how "organ and tissue donation" could help someone survive.

To make this piece, I first wrote the text at the top of the paper and then drew the birds around the text. I traced the text from my phone to show a unique font in my drawing. I then used a black pen to outline the text. I used colored pencils to draw the bald eagles. I mainly used white to blend the colors together. I used two reference images as inspiration. Lastly, I used blue watercolor in the background to make my piece more visually appealing. I wanted the birds to stand out in my piece so I make the background as light as possible.

The meaning behind my artwork is donating organs and tissues gives people a new opportunity for life. It means the world to others when you can save many lives just by donating organs and tissues. This relates to my life because it has introduced a new understanding of this topic and now I'm an organ and tissue donor. The message of the birds, specifically bald eagles is that you almost feel as if you need to protect these animals like you would protect others. I think my artwork could be stronger by making the background blended better and also making the text stand out more.
