"Early year drawings"

5"x6"

The subject of my creation is three very different things, that relate to each other through each being a drawing that was drawn from life. I drew the exterior of my house, an onion and myself looking down. In my house drawing, I drew the side of my house, where my room is because I am in my room a lot and it is important part of my house to me. One of our drawings had to be a still life of something that you despise and I chose an onion because I have a dislike towards them, due to the smell, in the air and after you touch them, I also despise the taste. Lastly, my portrait relates to me, because it is me, showing many physical details. I chose to create these projects because I wanted to see how I could progress as an artist throughout the year.

I first made a self-portrait of myself, I made this by looking down in a mirror, showing a different angle that typically is not drawn. I used a 4H pencil by first outlining my face and hair, using a 6B pencil later on to darken my hair, then I went in with charcoal on my face, and black ink pen, showing the values throughout my face. Next, I drew the exterior of my home, looking up from the ground. I started by first using a ruler to outline my house, then went in with a black ink pen, and lastly used a watercolor pallet in the background and my house, making my drawing more appealing. Finally, for my onion I outlined it with a 4H pencil, then went in with a watercolor pallet, to add color and shading.

I used value to show different shades, highlighting the lightest parts and making dark values stick out less. This is shown specifically in my portrait and onion. I also showed color in the background for the exterior of my house and onion, giving the audience a more visually appealing piece to look at. For all three of my drawings, you could argue I showed contrast, for example in my onion I tried to use many values to one color, to show how they differentiate from each other, from light to dark. Throughout these projects, I had to keep moving from drawing to drawing because some materials I needed at school were not at home, so it took much longer than I had expected. Also, I had first started drawing the onion with colored pencils, although I could match the values/colors correctly with the real onion, so I restarted. My next steps in my time capsules are to make a more realistic drawing of myself, by matching the characteristics of my face better. For my onion, I could add more values, also something in the background. Lastly, for the exterior, I could add more details from the inside of my house.
