Bee Happy

"Bee happy"

7” x 9¾”

The subject of my creation is a painting of a landscape, showing different colors and bees. My inquiry question that I'm focusing on throughout the year is, “how can animals evoke a particular emotion,” so by adding bright colorful colors, I am showing the happy emotion of the bees. I wanted to paint bees because they are dying rapidly, causing a concern for humans. Bees pollinate the nature around us, so we rely on them for making our food.

I used canvas paper, so the paint would dry fast. I taped the border with painters tape, making sure the border would be clean after I took it off. I started by painting the background first with acrylic paints. I used a larger paint brush to cover large areas of space, like the sky. Then I painted the middle ground, with smaller paint brushes, adding more details, as it gets closer to the foreground. After I had finished the landscape I added bees, to relate to my question.

I used color in my artwork to express the emotion of the bees. Throughout the background and foreground, there are a variety of different colors shown. I think of bright colorful colors as a happing and exciting emotion. In my piece I also showed unity by placing the bees in the foreground and connecting them with my piece. At first I wanted to flowers at the bottom, but I changed my piece into strokes of what looks like leaves. I also wanted to make the bees on top of the flowers, as if they were pollinating them. My next steps in this project would be to blend the background and foreground better, connecting the two pieces. I also want to add more bees, giving my piece more depth.
