Finial reveiw
Reflection,
At the beginning of the year I just wanted to get the art credit I needed then be done with art. Although I actually seemed like art. I looked forward to going to art class every single white day. I would run out of Spanish class and race down the halls just to be the first one to art class. At the beginning of the year I didn't know nearly as much as I do now. Its pretty remarkable how much I grew as an artist in only one year. Middle school art is nothing like high school art where you have to do work outside of class. So this year I had to learn many important things in art that I hadn't been taught like to be patient when doing projects, time management and goal setting. These skills developed throughout the year. If you look back at my time capsule drawings compared to my later time capsule drawings you notice a huge difference and you see how these skills have developed and improved. Goal setting was super important because in order to turn your project in on time you have to set goals outside of the classroom as well as inside the classroom.
Past students that had previously taken Foundations of Art told me, "you don't want Mrs. Medsker her class is really hard." So going into foundations as a little freshmen I was extremely nervous and didn't know what to expect. We had a homework assignment the first class, this made me realize that I would have to work really hard and put in a lot of effort into art. Even though the class itself was somewhat difficult I wouldn't want any other teacher, Mrs. Medsker taught me so much and was probably my favorite teacher this year. She believed that I could develop into a strong artist, which I did.
Some art projects we did this year were challenging for me and were not my favorite, like my wire sculpture project, oil pastel project and linoleum prints. These projects were the most challenging and took a lot of time. For my wire sculpture it was hard to make the wires really tight so they wouldn't move which frustrated me. My oil pastel project took a long time to match every square and color to the reference paper. Lastly my linoleum prints took countless tries to get 4 perfect print. Even though those projects were more challenging I put my best efforts. I enjoyed mixed media and painting, like my self portrait, artist inspired, surrealism collage and my final project. This type of art came easier to me and I could really pay attention to details and value.
One thing that was very helpful in art was peer critiques and looking at other artwork to get ideas for my own. These critiques helped me see what I could improve on and what I was doing well on. I tried to fix most if not all of my projects based on what the peer critique had said. When I was the person critiquing another persons artwork I tried to really focus on specific ways they could improve their artwork, so it would be beneficial to them.
I am so happy I took foundations this year. Next year I am going to pursue art by taking ceramics 1, 2D, and I want to add 3D to my schedule. I have noticed different aspects of art differently now that I know the foundations of art. I see the world differently by paying attention to the little details. If you make mistakes in art there are always ways around it. Art can be anything you want it to be.
