Smiling

The subject of my creation is two subjects looking at each other laugher. This is showing how the facial features of one person can influence those of another person. I did this to make sure my projects influence one another by focusing on human features and how they are shown through emphasis. This relates to my life because when I look at someone the first thing I notice is their face, and whatever they are doing with their face, is how I perceive that person, and many other people think the same way.

I used charcoal paper and make a 3 1/4 inch border around my central image. I took the images in the light room of Sydney and Gracie. I started by printing the image I was using as a reference, then grid my paper. I used black charcoal, white charcoal charcoal pencils, for sharper details. The white and black charcoal created emphasis throughout my piece, which is connected to my question, you notice that your eyes are drawn to the subject of the face, rather than the black background.

I used value in my artwork to express the white and black tones. I also showed emphasis by making the faces the focal point of my piece and making the background black. At first I wanted to do the background with a different colors, but I choose to make the background black instead. My next steps in this project would be to blend the hair and values together, to make my piece really realistic.
